Engineering is one of the most studied fields in Pakistan. The scope of Engineering is quite broad which is why it is broken down into various sub-disciplines. Engineering study programs in Pakistan are offered from matriculation to higher education level. The students have the option to take engineering courses in the intermediate, bachelors’, master’s, M.Phil., and PhD level.
In its typical sense, engineering involves the
application of mathematics and scientific knowledge to invent, renovate,
design, construct, research, to enhance the systems, complex tools and
mechanical instruments. There are for core dimensions of engineering. These are
categorized as Chemical engineering, Civil engineering, Electrical engineering
and mechanical engineering.
Mechanical engineering is the broadest of all
engineering disciplines because it overlaps into other engineering disciplines
as well. Civil engineering mainly focuses on public works pertaining to the construction of building and construction of infrastructures while Electrical
engineering focuses on all things pertaining to electronics. However, since
engineering is so broad so all fields require ample time to be given a
proper introduction.
Engineering offers an exciting career opportunity where you can deploy creativity, mathematics and scientific knowledge to solve
complex problems in a systematic and efficient way. Moreover, engineering skills
are in huge demand worldwide which also makes it one of the most employable
professions. Many of the skills that engineers hone open doors to career
progression and advancement in a short span of time.
There are many well-known universities which are
offering quality engineering education study programs in Pakistan. Although the
admission criterion of all these universities vary from one another, however;
the universities are bound to follow the standard curriculum approved by IEEE
and HEC.
As far as admission criteria are concerned,
engineering study programs in Pakistan are highly competitive. The merit in top-ranked universities remains above 75% aggregate with limited seats. Normally,
almost all engineering institutes in Pakistan require an entry test i.e. ECAT.
For MSc and MPhil in engineering, HEC requires that every applicant must
qualify GAT. Similarly, GRE is the standard entry requirement for PhD.
Furthermore, engineering study programs in Pakistan
are not limited to traditional 16 or 18 years of education. The world has
evolved and blended education is on the verge to replace the conventional
studies. There are many online platforms which offer specialized courses in
engineering from Basic to a professional level. In recent years, it’s been
observed that the trend is shifting towards these MOOC’s and blended courses
because they are more flexible. There are several online platforms such as EDx
and Coursera which are in limelight these days.
To sum up, there are an array of opportunities in
Engineering if someone is aspiring to be an engineer. However, a proper
guidance would be needed to identify the area of interest for specialization.
Furthermore, Engineering study programs in Pakistan do serve the needs of an
aspiring engineer.
