Whether you are applying
in Pakistan or abroad, you need to understand what engineering universities are
looking for when they select new undergraduate students and what steps you can
take to improve your chances of getting a place at Engineering Universities in Pakistan.
Continue to Apply:
There is every chance that you might be
unsuccessful in the beginning or won’t be able to get a place at your preferred
institute or course. You must not lose heart but continue to apply. The first
thing to consider is to apply without any reservation, at least you won’t
regret later.
Achieve Good Grades:
You need to secure good scores to get admission
in leading engineering universities. The application criteria varies from university
to university. However generally, a prospective applicant needs to have intermediate
or equivalent (12 years) qualification with minimum 45%-50% (depending on the program)
marks in Intermediate and in case of O Level, A Level, American High School
Diploma or any other equivalent foreign qualification, an equivalence certificate
from IBCC is mandatory. Similarly, 50% passing marks in NAT/Admission Test and interview
are required for admission.
Usually university
selectors keep in mind the personal context in which you have achieved good
scores. In case you haven’t scored well, make sure you explain the reason well
in your application form or get referees which highlight your potential for
achieving high grades.
Take Interest While Choosing University and
Course:
One needs to keep in mind
that universities in Pakistan mainly select students on the basis of their
academic suitability for a particular course. You need to select the subject of
your choice when you apply, focus on your personal statement, choose references
carefully and prepare yourself for the interview by highlighting your passion
for the subject. You need to convince
the faculty that you are looking forward to study at university. Talk about
your interests in your application form and state reasons in relationship to
the courses you have applied for and be prepared to say things that attracted
you to apply for a particular course.
Share Your Personal Perspective:
If you want to become an engineer, you need
to have an impressive academic record and tell selectors about your achievements.
Do not brag too much, if you have not won a national science competition. Be
genuine.
Be Organized:
When you apply, you need to be organized and
start preparing for the admission documentation before time. You need to make
study preparation for any additional tests, getting references, checking and
getting response on your application.
Have an Outlook:
Give yourself a chance and apply to all
engineering universities, you never know your luck. On the brighter side, if
you do get admission in a well-reputed university, you will be able to learn skills
in terms of mastering an academic subject and will enjoy expressing critical
thinking across the higher educational institution. You will enjoy your studies
and working opportunities.
So take the plunge and
even if you don’t get an offer from an engineering university of your choice,
chances are that your higher education experience is going to make your days at
university memorable one.
Good Luck!
